After taking you up-close and personal with the fabrics of CHANEL’s Paris-Bombay, we figured it was only fair to give some face-time to the makeup master responsible for the sheer “beauty” of the show. Ladies and gents, the sultan of beauty, Mr. Peter Philips - the man—who according to our girl at Vogue, Sarah Brown—holds “the most coveted job in cosmetics.” We concur! As Creative Director of CHANEL Make Up since '08, Philips is responsible for painting the faces of the runway, as well as creating that signature shade of CHANEL Le Vernis nail polish we all swoon for season after season. (Yes, fellow manicure mavens. We've revealed the man behind the mystery!) With over a decade in the biz collaborating with industry veterans like Patrick Demarchelier, Craig McDean, Steven Klein, Inez van Lamsweerde, Vinoodh Matadin and Mario Testino, you can only imagine the genius this man brings to the table… and catwalk. Making the switch from graphic design to fashion design was only the beginning. But, it was the madness of the make-up teams backstage, which caught Philip's attention. And he hasn’t stopped since – working with everyone from Jil Sander to Raf Simons to the glossy pages of Vogue, V, Interview, W, New York Times and more. The man is a makeup magician, transforming the faces of our girls, Lindsey Wixson, Jacquelyn Jablonski and Mirte Maas (just to name a few) with a dramatic smoky eye and neutral lip for the recent Métiers D'Art. Don’t worry! TC got the 411 from Philips on the goods he used. (Read down below!) Philips certainly knows how to add that certain je ne sais quoi. Using his brush as his magic wand, Philip’s brought Uncle Karl’s Indian-inspired vision to life. We could barely keep our les yeux—that’s French for eyes—off the model's immaculate make-up.
