Henry Yeend King (Kunst)

Henry Yeend King is a painter of the British school, King typically executed genre scenes and landscapes, and was also a skilled watercolorist. He studied under William Bromley, and then in Paris under Leon Bonnat and Fernand Cormon. He exhibited his canvases rather often, including at Suffolk Street from 1874 and at the Royal Academy from 1879. In addition, he took part in exhibitions in both Munich and Berlin, and was awarded a bronze medal in Paris in 1889 at the Exposition Universelle. Throughout the course of his life, King showed 87 paintings at the Royal Academy, 115 at the Society of British Artists, 38 at the New Water Colour Society, 92 at the Royal British Academy, 102 at the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, 161 at the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours, 29 at the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool, 53 at Dowdeswell Galleries, and 13 at the Birmingham Royal Society of Artists.

King was made a member of the Society of British Artists in 1879, and a member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours in 1887, of which he was named the Vice-President in 1901. In 1898, his canvas Milking Time was purchased by London’s Tate Gallery. His typical late Victorian rustic genre scenes most usually depict garden scenes with attractive young women or farmers in countryside landscapes, and are highly coveted by public and private collections alike.
