Meet Stephen Eichhorn, a local multimedia artist whose dreamy collages have us thinking about a total home do-over (with art in every room!). We love Stephen's work, and couldn't help wondering what the home of an inspired artist might look like. Plus, he's a living example of how Chicago guys can get maximum style with not-too-much effort. It doesn't have to be all pocket squares and cufflinks, and Stephen is proof. Has anyone or anything inspired your home?
"In the delineation of domestic/work space, I take inspiration from the personal homes of a mix of mid-century artists/designers. Specifically the Eames' home and studio, Russel Wright's house and Harry Bertoia's house and studio."

How would you describe your style in three words?
"Classic, repetitive, minimal."

What are you most excited about professionally at the moment?
"A couple things: The gallery I work with in Chicago, Ebersmoore, just reopened in a new location with a group show, "NEU!", that I'm participating in. I have a solo show at Elmhurst Art Museum opening Friday, January 13, running through March 31. In February I am working with close friends, Chris Peters and Shane Gabier (Creatures of the Wind), on their Fall 2012 fashion presentation. I'm fabricating a series of custom sculptures that will serve as a backdrop to their runway presentation. At the end of February I am in a three person show at Purdue University with Cody Hudson and Chad Kouri curated by Garet Martin. Toward the end of the show we will take up residence in the gallery in a studio structure built and designed by local high school students."

Do you have any interior design projects on your to-do list for 2012?
"I'm constantly rearranging and cleaning out the studio for different shows/projects. In terms of the house, the kitchen needs a face-lift."

What do you love most about your profession?
"Being self-employed, I get to work from home and do what I love everyday."

Where in your home do you spend the most time?
"Either in the studio or at the desk in the dining room."

What kind of music is always playing in your house?
"In the studio I listen to a lot of Om, Lichens, Sleep, White/Light, Black Sabbath, and Slayer."

What kinds of art do you like to display in your home?
"In large part my collection is made up of friends' artwork as well as people I take inspiration from."

What item from your wardrobe do you wear most?
"A.P.C Petit Standard Jeans. Everyday."

Where do you love to shop in Chicago?

"My fiance."
