Interior Design Trends 2013 (Kunst)

 *****
We are halfway through 2013, and we have seen some heavy trends for the interior design world.

Here are some of our favorites:

1. Large Scaled Patterns: Whether it is for pillows, draperies, or a rug…patterns are in. The bigger the better. Layering patterns can be tricky, but the rule of thumb is to scale them small, medium, and large. Then you can mix stripes and floral, geometric and abstract…then mixing palettes. That may need to be left to the professional if you are weary.

2. Stripes, Stripes, and More Stripes. We have never seen so many stripes (or chevrons, which is a jagged stripe) in the interior design world or the fashion industry. It was a hot trend for Spring/Summer 2013 Fashion Week. Do what you comfortable with. Paint is inexpensive and can be changed if you get tired of it. Paint an accent wall, or a powder bath and join in on the fun. Chevron has been around since the herringbone/chevron flooring developed in the 16th century Europe, but it has never left the interiors. Its a classic and timeless twist on the stripe. Mixing a striped wall and the chevron pattern on draperies can also be a fun twist for a dining space, or a kids room. To be different, through in a coastal twist and paint stripes on the floor.

3. Wallpaper: Whether it is a stripe, a large scaled pattern, a floral, or something more tame; wallpaper is back and with a vengeance. It isn’t permanent and can be removed or painted over if you change your mind. Have fun with the interiors of your home. Don’t play it so safe. Your wardrobe has many different facets and colors, just like your personality. Let your interior finishes and decorating be the same way!

4. Animal Prints: For some people, animal prints will forever make you prrrrr (pun intended) for them, but for others, they are venturing out to grasp the new trend for 2013, animal prints. Adding a cut velvet animal print tone on tone pillow, a shagreen covered side table, giraffe print pillows, or a zebra skin rug underneath that lucite coffee table. This trend is back and doesn’t seem to be going anywhere.

5. Brass: Don’t feel ill, yes I said brass. This is not the shiny brass you think of during the 6

70´s, but it is a throwback to the era. This staircase was designed by Kelly Wearstler for one of her clients. Stunning masterpiece!

6. Green: Pantone named Emerald the Color of the Year for 2013, but we’re seeing all shades of greens and expect more in the future, from bright spring greens to olives, and especially lots of different blue-greens and teal.
