His journey as a photographer began at the young age of eight with his father’s Rolleiflex. The fascination with the camera led him to study photography for three years at the University of Gothenburg in Sweden.

Jonas began his working as a press photographer for several of the most influential newspapers in Sweden, and became the youngest winner ever of the Swedish Press photographer’s annual award – "Photographer of the Year".

Jonas developed an incredible talent for story telling in his images, and his relationship with Vanity Fair magazine enabled him to photograph the worlds’ most prominent politicians, entertainers, atheletes and celebrities.

The documentary assignments for Vanity Fair, covering 9/11, the devastation in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina and Haiti, showcase the great emotional depth present in Jonas’s work, and his unerring ability to honestly portray the great events of the day.

His work has been exhibited in New York, London and Stockholm.

Jonas has been a contributing photographer to Vanity Fair since 2000. He also contributes to US Vogue, GQ, Condé Nast Traveler, among others.

Advertising clients include: Rolex, LG, Net Jets, Chevrolet, Lexus, SAAB, Condé Nast and Apple.

Jonas Fredwall Karlsson resides in both New York and Stockholm.
