Mariano Vivanco (Kunst)

*****
Photographer Mariano Vivanco was born in Peru in 1975, and was raised around the world. He studied at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Art, Australia, and started to photograph professionally in Auckland, New Zealand. He subsequently moved to London in the year 2000.

Within a few years, Vivanco was regularly shooting for many internationally renowned magazines, including American Vogue,Vogue Hommes Nippon, Numero, Numero Hommes, i-D, MUSE, Dazed & Confused, Hercules, Electric Youth, Details, GQ Italy, Man About Town, Wonderland, Allure and Elle magazine, as well as the Russian, Spanish, Turkish, Japanese and Greek editions of Vogue.

Often in black and white, his portraits, nudes and editorial work in both men’s and womenswear, apply the principles of pure photography; using simply light and shade, Vivanco renders visible the natural spirit of the sitter. These subjects have included actors, and athletes, singers and stars - Lady Gaga, Emma Watson, Liv Tyler, Eva Mendes, Megan Fox, Ricky Martin, Antonio Banderas, Leo Messi, James Franco, Daniel Radcliffe, Henry Holland, Miranda Kerr, Helena Christiansen, Dita von Teese, Cillian Murphy, Jamie Bell, Rupert Friend, Naomi Campbell, Eva Herzigova, Donatella Versace, Dolce & Gabbana, Sir Paul Smith, Frida Giannini, Christiano Ronaldo, Kaka, and Dizzee Rascal.

Currently the London's National Portrait Gallery displays three of his works; a portrait of a young Lily Cole, model, one of stylist (and frequent collaborator with Vivanco) Nicola Formichetti and one of choreographer Rafael Bonachela, (commissioned for i-D Magazine in 2004).

Vivanco has also become a notable name in fashion filmmaking. He begun with experimental videos having his models mime to his favorite songs, these soon translated into spots for Dolce Gabbana, Cesare Paciotti and Pull and Bear to name a few. He created a video piece for the Thierry Mugler menswear show in January 2011 featuring Zombie Boy, Rick Genest. He also recently directed the commercial for the Dolce & Gabbana fragrance, “The One Sport,” featuring model Adam Senn.
