Glad No Matter What: Transforming Loss and Change into Gift and Opportunity - SARK

Editorial Reviews
Review
"In my humble opinion, this is the best book SARK has yet written."
— Christiane Northrup, PhD, author of The Wisdom of Menopause and Women's Bodies, Women's Wisdom

"In her unique and marvelous way, SARK shares her own story with humor and honesty, inspiring us with her wisdom. In Glad No Matter What, she shows us how to live with greater genuine happiness even when we're facing tough challenges or tumultuous change. I loved this book!"
— Marci Shimoff, New York Times bestselling author of Happy for No Reason

"It's easy to get caught up in one side of loss and change 'adversity' especially in times like these. But there's another side of the coin 'opportunity' that is so much bigger, fresher, and more abundant in the long run. In a masterful way that's almost a left brain/right brain tango, SARK has laid out the path for us to transform our lives no matter what the world throws at us."
— Chip Conley, founder of Joie de Vivre hotels and author of Peak

"SARK has done it again. She’s taken the harrowing life challenges of dealing with loss and change, turned them upside down, and created a powerful healing path that will calm fears, warm hearts, and transform lives forever. Way to go, SARK!"
— Cheryl Richardson, author of Take Time for Your Life and The Art of Extreme Self-Care

Make Your Creative Dreams Real: A Plan for Procrastinators, Perfectionists, Busy People, and People Who Would Really Rather Sleep All Day - SARK

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

For those of us who pass our days in a meaningless miasma of obligations and responsibility, SARK's upbeat 12-step prescription for "making creative dreams" come true may be just the ticket. Designing the book herself, SARK (short for Susan Ariel Rainbow Kennedy, author of Succulent Wild Woman) applies function to form with big and small font sizes, wild and wavy typesetting, drawings scattered liberally throughout, various exercises, Mad Lib-like blanks to fill in ("choose a micromovement and write it here_____") and three 16-page full-color inserts (not seen by PW). In case you doubt SARK's enthusiasm for her version of the creative life, she includes testimonials ranging from "John, Teacher" to "Val, Expressive Arts Therapist." Despite SARK's admirably unrestrained support for the creative life, it's difficult not to cock a cynical eye at some of her suggestions, such as "let your dream vehicle out to play!" And while she encourages us to "feel free to color or draw in this book," there isn't actually all that much room to do so. SARK addresses the negativity toward creativity that so many artists face from family, schools and bosses, but the repetition of the word "dream" never quite seems to slide over into how to use it to tend an actual artistic career.

Eat Mangoes Naked: Finding Pleasure Everywhere (and dancing with the Pits) - SARK

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

With her distinctive mix of brightly colored jacket art and handwritten text, SARK offers another fanciful yet thoughtful guide to life. Heavier on the whimsy than her last book, Transformation Soup, which focused on healing, this one exudes her characteristic outlook on life's continuous difficulty and people's "splendid imperfections." Retaining a light, positive and humorous tone, even when she discusses death, SARK advocates finding pleasure in every situation, while admitting that, as for many people, "the struggle still feels more comfortable to me than the pleasure." In the spirit of teaching what she most needs to learn, she reminds readers that "our spirits are in need of pleasure, like our bodies need vitamins, or oxygen, or water." Based on this ethic of joy, SARK demonstrates what might be gained from painful experiences, other people, mistakes, change, nature, ordinary things around the house and imaginary or vicarious adventures. She uses anecdotes from her own and others' lives to illustrate how "pleasure responds to invitation," showing up when and where we may least expect it, if we are open to receiving it. As always, SARK's simple artwork and scribbled text make readers feel like they've received a secret note from their best friend in the middle of a tedious class. Agents, Debra Goldstein and Mary Ann Naples, Creative Culture. (May 2) Forecast: The peerless author of 10 books, including Succulent Wild Woman and Living Juicy, has attracted a devoted following and licensed an impressive array of tie-in posters, stationery, calendars and totebags available online and in bookstores. Like her previous books, this one will win robust sales and enthusiastic fans with the help of a 14-city tour on which she will conduct mini-workshops in bookstores and related venues.

Sark's Journal and Play!Book : A Place to Dream While Awake - Sark

Review

You may have seen SARK's "How To Be a Fabulous Feminist" or "How To Be an Artist" posters: child-like, handwritten print filling the page with free-flowing expression. Sark's Journal is in the same airy style, but with spaces for you to write, put pictures, create, aspire and play. This unique journal is spacious, carefree, fun, colorful and probably the most inviting place you would want to make a record of you. Give one to your best friend, your favorite kid, or hide one under your bed for when you can steal a few moments for yourself. -- From The WomanSource Catalog & Review: Tools for Connecting the Community for Women; review by Ilene Rosoff
