Slowly Down the Ganges - Eric Newby (Boek)

Review
Eric Newby has never been bedeviled by practicality. Hence this 1,200-mile journey down the Ganges River, which the author undertook in 1963 in the company of his wife and an ever-changing crew of Indian retainers. What moved him to take the trip? Partly it was the memory of his military service in India more than two decades before. And as he confesses, Newby has a lifelong and perhaps congenital love of rivers: "I like exploring them. I like the way in which they grow deeper and wider and dirtier but always, however dirty they become, managing to retain some of the beauty with which they were born." Few rivers grow quite as dirty as the Ganges, which also goes by such nicknames as Atula ("Peerless"), Savitri ("Stimulator"), and Bhinna-brahmanda-darpini ("Taking pride in the broken egg of Brahma"). And few accounts of this mighty waterway could possibly be as acute and hilarious as Slowly down the Ganges, which Newby first published in 1966.

Road Trip packing! (Reizen)

Well, the week before the Spring into Organization Home Tour, my family enjoyed a week away in Oregon! I thought I'd share with you how we packed our van for a road trip plus a few of our favorite photos from the trip!

So, I loaded up the bottom one with supplies to take up that we may need to get into but not a lot, and the top one {the smaller of the two} to load up with snack food for in the van. Then, I faced them towards the kids' seats so they could reach the food {and pass up to Mom and Dad also} while we were on the road. Of course, that's all part of a road trip - getting to eat fun food while on the road. And, like I've told you before, my kids aren't normally allowed to eat in the van so this was fun for them!

10 Things I Love and Don’t Love about Living in Paris (Reizen)

One year! It’s been one year since we moved to Paris. I can’t believe it. Moving here was one of the best decisions we’ve ever made. I’m SO glad we did it. People always ask what it is like to live here and honestly, it is better than I imagined. Not to say there aren’t hard things. Neither Paul or I speak French (we’ve picked up a little since we moved here) so that has made some things a lot more difficult. In general I’m an optimist who tends to brush over the bad parts of things so I made a list of my 10 things I love and don’t love about living in Paris. (You know, to be fair and balanced.)
