Here are six unique ways you can turn trash into treasure, and bring change to your homes decor:
Repaint Old Picture Frames A great way to add instant color to your home without spending a lot of cash is to find old picture frames in storage, thrift stores, or garage sales. Simply paint them any accent color your want, and it will instantly add a pop of color into your room.
Refinish an Old Piece of Furniture Do you have an old dresser that you dont use anymore because it doesnt fit your decor? Paint works wonders. Simply sand, prime and paint the piece to fit into your current color scheme.
Spray Paint Glass Jars Wash and completely rinse out old pickle, jelly, and mayonnaise jars. Spray paint them, then use them for vases, pencil holders, etc.
Cover a Shoebox with Contact Paper for Paper Storage - There are many different patterns and styles of contact paper available. Choose one that you like, cover the shoebox with it, then use it to store your bills.
Bring New Life to an Old Lamp Spray paint the lamp base a neutral color, like black or white. Then, use a glue gun to attach a new fabric to the lampshade.
Make a New Coat Hanger Paint an old shipping pallet any color you want, then hang it on your entry way wall. Attach over the door hangers to it, and use it for hanging coats, hats, etc.
Create a Unique Endtable - Drill a vintage suitcase to an old snack table for an end table that will surely be one of a kind.
Vintage Trunk Coffee Table - Vintage trunks are used as coffee tables often, however, sometimes they arent quite high enough. Attach bun feet or legs with a drill to the bottom for extra height.
Get Use Out of Your Old Sweaters - Use old sweaters and shirts to re-cover your accent pillows for a new style in your living room.
Make a Chalkboard Use an old Framed mirror and paint it with chalkboard paint. You can create a framed chalkboard to use in your kitchen for your grocery list.
Coasters Use letter pieces in an old scrabble game to make unique coasters. Super glue the sides together using a toothpick, paint a coat of sealant over it, and you have a great homemade gift.
You dont have to be overly artistic to upcycle old items into something new for your home. All it takes is for you to think outside the box. Next time you want to redecorate your home try searching your own home for old items before you buy something brand new.
