and O design

and O design is the creation of Yumi Ando. Born in Tokyo Japan, from a young age she developed a keen interest in drawing, use of colour, and hand crafting new and unique pieces from raw materials such as paper, clay and found objects. After studying Commerce and working in the Public Relations / Advertising industry in Tokyo, she moved permanently to Australia in 2003. Melbourne has both inspired and brought her creative desires to the surface. She completed a Diploma in Interior Design and Decoration at RMIT and then used her flair for photography, graphic design and visual merchandising whilst employed in retail. Since discovering a deep passion for hands-on design with ceramics and clay as a medium, the jewellery and homewares label and O design was founded in 2010. Every piece is developed from hand drawn sketches or technical drawings using architectural templates and CAD. They are then individually hand crafted from porcelain, earthenware and Raku clay and finished with glaze. Her designs are best described as being iconic, elegant and nostalgic, and are always evolving in their combination of organic and industrial aesthetics.
