5 Steps to a stress-free home (Overig)
After a particularly testing day you got stuck in traffic for three hours, got caught in a downpour and your desk-buddy insisted on humming the theme song to their kids favourite TV show all day the last thing you want to do is come home to a disorganised, chaotic home.
Your home should be your sanctuary a place to restore your energy and enjoy time with your loved ones. It shouldnt be a building riddled with inevitable disaster or a reminder of things that need doing.
To rid your home of any stressful energy that may be lingering about (the tower of pots and pans threatening to topple at any second, were looking at you), follow these 5 easy steps.
-Create some you space
This could be a whole room, or a small corner with a load of cushions for you to sink into wherever you choose, make sure your family knows that you are not to be disturbed when you are in this spot. On the other side of this, its also a good idea to create an area in your home for the jobs that you try to avoid home insurance paperwork, bills, to-do lists so that the not-so-fun stuff doesnt get muddled with the fun stuff.
-Set up a dumping ground
There are certain things that get throw on the kitchen table as soon as you walk through the door car keys, sunnies and gloves are just a few every day necessities that clutter the first surface available. Have some hooks near the door so that your keys have a home, as well as a basket for seasonal accessories. Knowing where all your bits and bobs are at the end of the day will take the frazzle out of your morning schedule.
-Unplug electronics
Not only will this save your energy bills, but will remove you from the constant buzz of the outside world. Being able to switch off from work is important at the end of the day, but if your laptop is always open on your email inbox, youll never get away. To ensure a good nights sleep, keep televisions and computers out of the bedroom this separates your association with work and relaxation.
-Let the morning be your wake up call
Swap your dark curtains for ones that will let the light through in the mornings, its a much gentler way of waking up. When your alarm goes off, you automatically resist, which creates stress and tension before youve even had a chance to have a cup of tea. Of course, this cant always happen in the winter months when the sun doesnt rise until 9.30 and you were meant to be in the office half an hour ago
-De-clutter
Consider each item you own by how it makes you feel if something holds bad memories, dont hesitate to throw it out. This also goes for photos from failed relationships and gifts from anyone youve had a falling out with. Any clothes that you own that are now too small will only make you feel bad about yourself take them to the charity shop and forget all about those 5lbs youve put on since your early 20s.
