CWB Architects (Kunst)
Since 1995, CWB Architects has steadily grown its practice from a two-person shop focused on historic row house renovations into a multi-disciplinary architecture and interior design firm that has been designing residential and commercial spaces throughout Manhattan, Brooklyn, Westchester, New Jersey, Connecticut, and the Eastern End of Long Island. Our strengths lie in both residential architecture adapted for modern living, and commercial spaces crafted for collaboration and productivity. Equally adept in historic renovation and modern design, we rely on our practical experience and sophisticated design sensibility to derive imaginative solutions, while striving to balance economic feasibility and our clients needs and tastes. We feel that identifying simple solutions for design problems is key to achieving completed works that are appropriate and seemingly effortless.
Originally founded as Coburn Architecture, PC, CWB Architects has been located in Brooklyns DUMBO historic waterfront district since 2000. Our collaborative team of 17 consists of three principals, five licensed architects, two interior designers, draftspersons, model builders, and administrative staff. Each of our design team members has substantive experience in new construction, renovations, adaptive re-use, and restoration in landmark districts, with particular strength in row houses. We maintain relationships with qualified consulting engineers, both structural and mechanical, who are well-versed in the systems required for these construction types.? ?
Work in urban settings has honed our skills to maximize the quality and use of space. Our frequent need to manipulate limited square footage has taught us that spaces can be equally simple and complex, elegant and modest, luxurious and understated. Good design is not merely the superficial application of finishes on complicated forms, but rather the result of thoughtful space planning and an essential understanding of the program, appropriate use of materials, image, and experience the client hopes to achieve
Our work has been covered by The New York Times, Metropolitan Home, Interior Design, Fine Homebuilding, Interiors & Sources, AtHome, New York Daily News, Brownstoner, Curbed, Remodalista, Houzz and HGTV, among others. In addition, our projects have been featured in Brooklyn Modern published by Rizzoli Press, The New American Dream: Living Well in Small Houses, published by Monacelli Press, The Kitchen Idea Book and Home Workspace Idea Book, published by Taunton Press, Essential Home, published by Ryland, Peters, Small Publishers, and Essential Elegance: The Interiors of Solis Betancourt, published by Monacelli Press.
