Hollywood Chelsea Buns (Kopie)
What with the Great British Bake Off appearing back on our screens, a new cupcake adorned apron and a kitchen that needs breaking in, a girl doesnt need many more excuses to line up the mixing bowls and crank up the oven temperature. Recipe inspired by Paul Hollywood, of course, and can be found here and here.
You will need:
500g plain flour
7g packet of yeast
300 ml milk
40g unsalted butter
1 egg
For the filling:
25g unsalted butter, melted
Cinnamon
Brown sugar
For the glaze:
Icing sugar
Method:
1. Mix flour and 1tsp salt in large mixing bowl. Make well and add yeast. Warm the milk and butter in a pan until the butter has melted and the milk is lukewarm. Add this, and an egg, to the flour mixture and stir until mixture acquires a doughy texture.
2. Knead mixture for 5 minutes, on a flour dusted surface, or until dough no longer sticks to your fingers.
3. Place dough in a bowl and cover with cling film. Set aside for in a warm place for 1 hour or until dough has doubled in size.
4. Knock dough back to its original size and, on a well floured surface, roll into a 1cm thick rectangle. Brush with melted butter and sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar.
5. Tightly roll up the dough and cut into thick slices. Position these, cut side up, on a baking tray, leaving a little space between each roll. Cover with damp tea towel and leave to rest for a further 30 minutes.
6. Preheat over to 190C/Gas mark 5. Bake buns for 20-25 minutes. Meanwhile, make glaze by combining icing sugar with 4tbsp of water.
7. Remove from oven and glaze. Set aside to cool.
