How to Get Organized for Spring Cleaning: Make A List, Clean Up, Maximize Storage With Space Bag (Overig)

It’s officially been warm outside for the past 3 weeks! We have had our bouts of wind and a day or two of rain, but for the most part, sunny San Diego is living up to it’s reputation. I guess it’s time to pack up the winter coats, heavy comforters, and open up the windows for some sun and fresh air!

I suppose spring is not really ‘spring’ without the urge to clean! I have already started spring cleaning, dusting, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, wiping, weeding out old stuff, etc. I have a plan in my head that I am attempting to follow, a few organizing tips for your home cleaning pleasure…

SpaceBag High capacity Storage Tote

1. Clean and organize room by room – Instead of looking at the cleaning process as a huge and overwhelming task, I will focus on one room at a time. I can probably get a little more detailed and it won’t take as long to conquer a smaller area.
2. Store items that wont be in use for a while – we live in a townhouse and finding enough storage space for the whole family can get difficult. I am going to utilize the Space Bag, I saw it in Target the other day and it basically shrinks down your stuff to where you use only about 1/3 of the space. Use it for clothes, bulky items, jackets and even in your suitcase. I got the high capacity storage tote and I will be loading and vacuum sealing it this weekend!
3. Make a list, check it twice – I will write down all of the stuff I need to get done for each room, what needs to be done, what I need to buy, etc. That way I won’t miss anything and avoid 52 trips to the store.
4. Involve the whole family - Free labor. Husband, kids, other live-ins should help, too! After, all they are contributors to the annual mess, right? Each person (age permitting) should be able to weed out old clothes, clean the window sill and dust a set of blinds, and take a turn at the scrubbing of the tubs and toilets.
I am also working on using cleaners that are natural, non-toxic, cheap and can fight scum and bacteria without me having to pay an arm and a leg for 12 different types of formulas. You can make your own cleaner any time with general household ingredients. I will tell you all how I do once I finish! I might have to grab another Space Bag for the kids’ stuff too.
How are you organizing and cleaning your home for the spring season? Have you already finished?
If you would like to enter to win a Space Bag of your own to tackle the mess, here’s your chance! One reader will win the high capacity storage tote mentioned above. Enter on the Rafflecopter form below, contest closes April 16, 2012. Good luck!
